-- REUTERS REPORT: MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Suspected Taliban gunmen killed seven Afghan musicians travelling home from a wedding, among them a well-known singer, police said on Friday.
The attack on a road in the northwestern province of Jozjan is the most serious violence since parliamentary elections went off largely peacefully last Sunday.
"All seven have perished," said Jozjan police official Ibrahim Sharwal. Ethnic Turkmen singer Quarab Nazar was among the dead, he said.

The attackers sprayed the musicians' vehicle with bullets on Wednesday as they travelled home from a wedding the previous night. Sharwal ruled out robbery as a motive.
"It's the work of the Taliban, none of their equipment or money was taken," he said.
The Taliban mostly operate in the south and east of Afghanistan, near the border with Pakistan, and they are not believed to have a presence in Jozjan, but small groups of allied militants and bandits operate in parts of the north.

The Taliban, who ruled the country between 1996 and 2001, banned music and cinema under their harsh interpretation of Islam.
